How do you start Pilates?

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a series of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. These exercises are performed on mats and on equipment ( the Reformer, the Cadillac or Tower, the Chair and the Barrel ) with the goal of strengthening the core of the body, lengthening the spine, building muscle tone, and increasing flexibility, all while eliminating excess tension and strain on the joints.

Pilates requires mental focus, which stimulates the mind and elevates the spirit. It is suitable for all ages and all body types.

What does Pilates do for you?

  • All movement is initiated by the abdominals resulting in a strong core.

  • Elongating your spine with every movement resulting in a stronger and more flexible spine. Your posture will improve dramatically.

  • You will work muscles you never thought you had!

  • Long, lean dramatically sculptured muscles. Your muscles will be gorgeous and sculptured, resulting in a long lean look without any of the bulk.

  • You will burn fat and lose unwanted inches while reving up your metabolism for increased weight loss and boosting energy levels!

  • You will work the body as a whole, resulting in a very well-balanced and conditioned body, eliminating muscular imbalances and preventing injury.

  • For those who play sports, both leisurely and professionally, Pilates will improve your game as you learn to initiate all movement from your core.

Starting Pilates can be daunting, so at Pilates Central, we offer different ways to get started.

Privates sessions are the best way to start. In a private session, you work one-on-one with an instructor. The workout is tailored specifically for you based on your current fitness state, age, fitness goals, and any existing injuries. These sessions may include working on the equipment and mat work, depending on your needs.

In addition to private sessions, you and up to two friends can form a group and create your own class, choosing the time that works for all of you. We would instruct using the same equipment and the mat workouts, tailoring the workout to the group.

We also offer Mat classes and Equipment classes.  Both the Mat classes and the Equipment classes are excellent ways to learn the Pilates exercises at a more economical price.

You are invited to change your body with Pilates Central.

After only 6 sessions, Pilates has helped in the following ways:

  • Remembering to use abs more, to support lower back.  Therefore, I can stand without pain for longer periods;
  • Learning to use arm muscles more wisely, and to position shoulders in healthier ways, so as not to exacerbate arthritic shoulder joints.
  • Improved mood and affect.
  • Greater energy.
  • I’m taking far less Advil because my overall pain has decreased markedly.

Thanks for everything. – ER
